Chapter 10 - The Words from Beyond the Grave
Mr. Harrison then opened a laptop, turned the screen toward the furious siblings, and pressed play. On the screen appeared Fiona, seated upright in the law office two years prior, her eyes sharp and clear, looking straight into the camera lens with unwavering dignity.
“To my children,” Fiona’s voice echoed across the quieted room, “you visited me when it was convenient for your pride, but you abandoned me when my bones grew too weary to walk. You brought me baskets of fruit, but never offered a glass of water when I was thirsty. You never knew my pain, nor did you care to ask.”

She paused, taking a breath before continuing: “Mabel took on the burden none of you had the heart to bear. She gave me twelve years of warmth, dignity, and love. Blood did not make you my family; loyalty, compassion, and respect did. Do not bother contesting this will. You abandoned your mother in life, so do not come seeking her ghost in death.” The video ended. Richard and Susan sat frozen in utter humiliation, unable to utter a single word as they grabbed their coats and walked out into the cold rain.
