Chapter 8 - CONSPIRACY UNVEILED

The world spun out from beneath my feet. A scream ripped from my throat—a sound so primal and full of agony that it echoed off the reinforced glass of the SUV.
"My babies!" I shrieked, clawing at the door handle in a frenzy of maternal madness. "Julian! He has my children! He's going to kill them!"
"Clara! Look at me!" Julian grabbed my shoulders, pulling me firmly against his chest, forcing me to meet his fierce, unwavering gaze. "Listen to me! Brandon and Emma are going to be fine. I swear on my life, I will tear this city apart brick by brick before I let Richard harm a single hair on their heads. Do you hear me?!"
His absolute certainty penetrated the blinding haze of my terror. I nodded, gasping for air, clutching his jacket lapels like a lifeline.
Julian immediately hit the satellite phone on the armrest. "Marcus, triangulate the GPS tracker I placed in Emma's stuffed bear this morning. Where are they?"
Marcus typed rapidly on the dashboard console. "Signal acquired, boss. They're heading north toward the old industrial shipping yards... Blackwood Docks."
Blackwood Docks. The very place where the Bennett empire had started fifty years ago, and the place where our nightmare had begun.
"Marcus, mobilize Strike Team Alpha. Full tactical gear. Have the chopper ready at the north landing pad," Julian commanded, his voice cold enough to freeze blood.
Then, Julian turned toward the specialized medical bag beneath his seat. He pulled out a large syringe filled with a bright golden liquid—an experimental high-dose neural stimulator designed to force spinal synapses to fire at maximum capacity, despite excruciating pain.
"Julian, no!" I gasped, recognizing the compound. "That dose is lethal if your nervous system goes into shock! It could cause cardiac arrest!"
"My children are at Blackwood Docks, Clara," Julian said with terrifying calm. "I don't care about the risk."
Without hesitation, Julian drove the needle directly into the nerve cluster at the base of his spine.
He arched his back, a guttural groan of agonizing pain tearing from his throat as the chemical surged through his bloodstream. His muscles seized, veins bulging along his neck and forearms. Sweat poured down his face as his nervous system ignited like a downed powerline.
For thirty seconds, he fought for breath, his teeth gritted so hard I thought they would shatter.

Then, slowly, miraculously, Julian gripped the back of the front seat.
His legs, which had been lifeless for six months, trembled with violent spasms. With a roar of pure, unadulterated willpower, Julian Bennett stood up onto his own two feet inside the moving vehicle.
