Chapter 10 - The Rebirth of Voss

The dawn that followed was the clearest New York had seen in months. The storm clouds broke apart, allowing rays of amber sunlight to wash over the East River, turning the glass facade of the Voss townhouse into a shimmering pillar of gold.
Inside the ballroom, the damage was extensive, but the atmosphere had transformed completely.
Paramedics, forensic teams, and federal agents were clearing out the remnants of Thorne’s syndicate. The media vans lined the street outside for blocks, but Celeste had barred them from the gates.
Upstairs in the private family quarters, Celeste sat on the edge of a wide, sunlit sofa. She had discarded her business suits forever, wearing a soft woolen sweater, her bare feet wrapped in clean bandages.
In front of her, Ivy and Esme were walking.
It was slow. It was accompanied by small stumbles and soft giggles as their muscles learned to remember the joy of movement, but it was real. Every step was a declaration of freedom.
Caleb stood near the French doors, sipping black coffee from an old porcelain mug, watching the twins with a deep, peaceful smile.
"Julian would be proud of you, Celeste," Caleb said quietly. "You didn't just save them. You brought our family's honor back."
Celeste looked up, her eyes soft with humility. "I spent four years running a company because I was too terrified to face the pain in my own home. I thought if I built an impenetrable fortress of wealth, nothing could ever hurt them again. I was a fool."
Ivy walked over, her steps gaining confidence, and climbed onto the sofa next to her mother. Esme followed, tucking herself under Celeste’s other arm.
"You're not a fool, Mom," Esme murmured, resting her head against Celeste’s chest. "You just forgot how to fight for the things that actually matter. But you remembered when it counted."
"I am resigning as CEO on Monday," Celeste announced, wrapping both arms around her daughters, holding them close enough to feel their synchronized heartbeats. "I’m appointing Caleb as head of the Julian Voss Research Foundation. Every penny of our fortune is going into clinical trials to give Project Genesis to every paralyzed child in the world for free."
Ivy looked up, her bright green eyes shining with hope. "And what are you going to do, Mom?"
May you like
Celeste smiled—a radiant, genuine smile that reached all the way to her soul, the smile from the framed photograph she had hidden for so many years.
"I’m going to be your mother. Full time."
