Chapter 11 - A LIFETIME BENEATH HIS PROTECTION

One year later.

The Westchester estate had never looked more magnificent. The scars of the battle had been completely erased, replaced by blooming white rose gardens, sparkling marble terraces, and an atmosphere filled with warmth and laughter rather than fear and shadows.

Don Vincenzo and his conspirators were serving consecutive life sentences in a supermax federal penitentiary, their entire criminal syndicate dismantled and absorbed under Dominic’s legitimate corporate logistics empire. The city was finally at peace.

In the grand ballroom where a poisoned birthday cake had once almost shattered our lives, golden sunlight streamed through the soaring stained-glass windows.

Ethan, now nine years old and standing tall in a handsome miniature tuxedo, was running across the polished floor, holding the hand of four-year-old Lily, who looked like a fairy princess in a fluffy ivory dress with sparkling white sneakers.

"Lily, don't drop the rings!" Ethan laughed, carefully guiding her toward the altar set beneath an archway of fresh jasmine and white lilies.

"I won't!" Lily giggled, holding the velvet cushion with absolute solemnity. "I'm the chief protector today!"

More than two hundred guests—close friends, allied business leaders, and loyal family members—stood in affectionate applause as I walked down the aisle in an exquisite silk gown that trailed behind me like liquid silver.

Standing at the altar, waiting for me, was Dominic Moretti.

He looked devastatingly handsome in his tailored black tuxedo, his tall, powerful frame radiating strength, honor, and an overwhelming devotion that made my eyes fill with happy tears. The scar on his left shoulder was hidden beneath his jacket, but the bond forged on that bloody night was written across his soul.

When I reached the altar, Dominic stepped down to take both of my hands into his. His touch was warm, gentle, and utterly grounding.

"You spent six years taking care of my house, Clara," Dominic said, his deep voice carrying across the silent, emotional ballroom. "And then, in a single moment of courage, you and your daughter gave me a home. You gave my son his life, and you gave me a reason to live beyond the shadows."

He reached into his pocket and placed a breathtaking diamond band onto my finger, while I placed a solid gold band onto his.

"I vow before God and everyone here to protect you, cherish you, and love you with every beat of my heart for the rest of my days," Dominic whispered, leaning in to brush a tear from my cheek.

"And I vow to stand beside you, to love you, and to never let you walk through the darkness alone," I answered softly.

When the priest declared us husband and wife, Dominic pulled me into his arms, lifting me slightly off the ground as his lips captured mine in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed our forever.

The entire ballroom erupted into a standing ovation.

Ethan and Lily ran up to the altar, wrapping their arms around our waists. Dominic laughed, reaching down with his powerful arms to scoop both children up at once—Ethan on his left arm, Lily on his right—while pulling me against his side.

Lily leaned over, tapping Dominic’s cheek with her tiny finger. "Mr. Dominic... I mean, Daddy?"

Dominic looked at her, his eyes shining with the deepest love a father could hold. "Yes, my little angel?"

"Is the wedding cake safe to eat today?"

The entire ballroom burst into joyful laughter.

Dominic smiled, pressing a warm kiss to Lily’s forehead and then turning to kiss me once more.

"Yes, sweetheart," Dominic whispered, his arm tightening around our family. "From this day on, every sweet thing in this house is safe forever."
