Chapter 1 - THE DISCARDED WIFE

After eleven agonizing years of being blamed and degraded for our failed attempts to conceive, my doctor finally gave me the miracle I had wept for: I was pregnant. Yet the joy died the instant I walked up to my front steps. My packed suitcase sat abandoned in the morning chill, topped with freshly printed divorce papers. Inside our living room, my husband Ryan was lounging beside his younger, heavily pregnant mistress, while my mother-in-law barked that the family required an heir and would no longer waste time on a broken woman. Ryan couldn't even meet my gaze as he commanded me not to make a scene and just sign the papers. Gripping the secret that would shatter their universe, I chose silence over begging. I took my suitcase, signed nothing, and walked into the dark, collapsing hours later beside an ominous black SUV in the cold night rain.
