Chapter 6 - SECRETS FROM THE ASHES

The ballroom descended into stunned chaos as federal agents in suits flanked every exit. On the massive projection screens above the stage, where Julian Hail’s corporate anniversary video had been playing, the screen suddenly glitched to black.
Then, high-resolution scans of the original 1995 Lancaster-Blackwood bio-tech partnership agreements illuminated the wall, followed by audio recordings recovered from the seized comms unit.
Julian Hail’s own voice echoed over the surround sound system:
"Make sure Thomas Lancaster’s laboratory audit fails. Cut the brake lines on his suppliers. When he goes under, the oncology patents belong to Hail Pharmaceuticals."
Gasps of horror and outrage broke out among the city's top investors and politicians. Julian’s face turned gray as he gripped the podium for support.
"Lies! Fabricated digital deepfakes!" Vivian screamed, rushing forward, her poise completely disintegrating. She pointed a trembling, manicured finger at Ivy. "You little gutter rat! You think dressing up in designer silk makes you equal to us? You're a maid! You will always be a nobody who scrubs our filth!"
Ivy stepped forward calmly, leaving Ronan’s side to stand directly before the stage. Her voice was steady, clear, and carried a weight that made Vivian shrink back.
"Dignity isn't bought with stolen money, Vivian," Ivy said, her words cutting through the grand room like a scalpel. "My father died with nothing in his pockets, but his soul was clean. Your family built an empire on theft, and tonight, the debt is due."
Federal agents walked up the stage stairs, presenting arrest warrants directly to Julian Hail. As handcuffs clicked around the billionaire patriarch’s wrists, the crowd parted in disgust.
Vivian turned to flee through the service exit, but as she reached the corridor, she locked eyes with Ronan.
"Ronan, please!" she begged, tears streaking her heavy makeup. "I did everything for us! For our future!"
"You did everything for your own pride," Ronan said coldly, stepping past her without breaking stride. "You are finished, Vivian."
Outside in the brisk night air, Ronan led Ivy away from the flashing cameras to a secluded balcony overlooking the city skyline. The city lights sparkled below like fallen stars.
Ivy leaned against the stone balustrade, taking her first deep, unburdened breath in five years. "It’s over. My father's name is finally cleared."
Ronan stepped beside her, taking both of her hands into his. "It is only the beginning, Ivy."
"Ronan..." she looked into his dark, earnest eyes.
"For months, I thought I was protecting you," Ronan murmured, his voice softening into raw sincerity. "But the truth is, you brought light into a life that was cold and empty. You taught me that true power is the courage to be kind."

He reached to touch her cheek, but before their lips could meet, a loud gunshot shattered the night, and a sniper's bullet sparked off the stone rail inches from Ivy's head!
