Chapter 11 - BEYOND THE EMPIRE'S CROWN
One year later, the grand ballroom of Blackwood Estate was once again filled with golden light beneath the magnificent crystal chandelier.
It was the annual Blackwood-Lancaster Foundation Gala, but the room held none of the cold, arrogant pretension of the past. Guests from all walks of life—scientists, nurses, estate staff, community leaders, and international dignitaries—mingled together in an atmosphere of warmth and genuine joy.
Malcolm Reeves stood near the grand entrance, wearing a broad, proud smile as he welcomed guests by name.
Near the dessert station, a young catering assistant nervously carrying a massive tiered cake stumbled slightly. Before anyone could panic, Ivy—stunning in a flowing white and gold gown, her wedding band sparkling beside her sapphire—stepped forward and gently caught the silver tier with practiced ease.
"Steady," Ivy smiled warmly at the girl. "Take a breath. You're doing wonderful work tonight."
The young girl beamed with relief. "Thank you, Mrs. Blackwood!"
Across the room, Ronan watched his wife with deep, unwavering adoration. He walked through the crowd, which parted with respect, and took Ivy’s hand, pulling her onto the center of the dance floor as the orchestra began playing a sweeping, romantic waltz.
As they spun beneath the glowing crystal lights, Ronan smiled down at her. "You still can't resist saving the day in the ballroom, can you?"
Ivy laughed softly, resting her head against his chest as they danced in perfect harmony. "Some habits never change. Power isn't about standing above people, Ronan. It's about reaching down to lift them up."
