Chapter 6 - SHADOW PROTOCOL ACTIVATED

The encrypted tactical tablet recovered from Wyatt’s briefcase sat on the hood of my stolen unmarked cruiser, downloading gigabytes of corrupt bank records, offshore shell corporation manifests, and video files directly to the federal justice database.

With Wyatt secured in zip-ties inside the steel shipping container and awaiting military transport, the Wolfe family was down to four brothers and their untouchable patriarch.

Willow Creek Manor was not just a residence; it was an eight-thousand-square-foot fortress situated on forty acres of dense pine forest in the foothills, surrounded by an eight-foot electrified perimeter fence, thermal motion sensors, and an armed private security detachment consisting of former overseas mercenaries.

Victor Wolfe knew I was coming.

He had pulled all his surviving sons—Cole, the enforcer; Silas, the weapons specialist; and Tristan, the media and legal fixer—into the compound. They had turned the estate into a military bunker.

My comms unit clicked. Ray’s voice came over the encrypted channel.

"Jack, federal prosecutors just reviewed the harbor files and Tessa’s 4K video. A joint task force of federal marshals and the FBI is mobilizing out of Richmond, but Victor’s bought-and-paid-for state judges are tying up the search warrants in emergency injunctions. You have approximately two hours before federal units move in."

"Two hours is too long," I replied, loading armor-piercing 7.62mm rounds into high-capacity magazines. "Victor is already preparing to burn the estate and scrub the primary hard drives. If those servers burn, the entire political network backing him walks away clean."

"What’s your play?"

"Shadow Protocol," I answered.

Ray was silent for three seconds. In special operations, Shadow Protocol was a classification reserved for behind-the-lines sabotage: cutting off power, communications, and logistical support to a fortified target while psychologically breaking the garrison from within before launching the kinetic assault.

"You're going in solo against fifty men?" Ray asked.

"They have fifty men who fight for a paycheck," I said. "I'm fighting for the woman fighting for her life in your ICU. The math is on my side."

At 1:15 a.m., I breached the southern perimeter of Willow Creek Manor.

The rain had turned into a thick, low-lying ground fog that rolled across the manicured lawns. I bypassed the electrified fence by tapping into the transformer box with a high-voltage grounding shunt, cutting the juice to the southern sector while feeding a continuous loop of static to the main security monitors inside the guardhouse.

I slipped through the pine trees like a phantom.

Two perimeter guards with night-vision scopes were patrolling the tree line along the stone driveway. I dropped from the low branch of an oak tree directly behind the first guard, driving my combat knife through his rifle sling, pinning his weapon, and applying a sleeper hold that cut off his oxygen in six seconds. As he slumped, I drew my suppressed sidearm and fired a single non-lethal subsonic round into the leg of the second guard, pulling him into the brush before he could hit his radio button.

"Who’s commanding the perimeter?" I demanded, my blade resting against his jugular.

"Silas... Silas Wolfe," the guard gasped, trembling violently. "He’s in the detached armory building near the motor pool! They’ve got heavy machine guns mounted on the balcony!"

"Where is Victor?"

"In the underground panic room beneath the wine cellar... he’s destroying the transaction logs right now!"

I knocked the guard unconscious with a precision strike to the nerve center beneath his ear, retrieved his tactical radio, and clipped it to my vest.

The radio crackled instantly with Silas Wolfe’s frantic voice.

"Patrol Two, report. Patrol Two, why is the south fence showing a voltage drop? Respond immediately!"

I keyed the mic.

"Silas," I said, my voice echoing coldly across every handheld radio on the Wolfe network. "This is Jack Dalton. Dominic is broken. Julian is unconscious. Wyatt is in a federal cage. You have ninety seconds to drop your weapons and walk out with your hands up, or I level that armory to the ground."

Static hissed over the channel, followed by the furious roar of Victor Wolfe breaking into the frequency.

"Dalton! You government lapdog! You think you can intimidate my family? I built this empire with blood! Every politician in this state answers to me! You come near this house and my sons will hang you from the front gates!"

"Tick-tock, Victor," I said.

I released the radio button, pulled four remote-detonated C4 charges from my assault pack, and sprinted through the fog toward the motor pool.

The reckoning had arrived at their front door.
