Chapter 11 - THE MAID BECOMES THE QUEEN

The grand ballroom of the Marquetti estate was once again illuminated by the warm, dazzling glow of crystal chandeliers. But tonight, there was no riding crop. There were no sneering socialites or cruel games of hierarchy.
Tonight, the ballroom was filled with laughter, music, and celebration.
The entire lower household staff—Ambrose, the kitchen maids, the groundskeepers—sat at the front tables as honored guests of the house, dressed in their finest attire, clinking crystal flutes of vintage champagne.
In the center of the polished dance floor, under the soft canopy of white wisteria and candlelight, Enzo Marquetti held Adeline Croft in his arms.
Adeline was radiant in an ivory silk gown that flowed like water around her ankles. On her wrist, a delicate platinum bracelet concealed the faint, silver ghost of an old scar—a reminder not of pain, but of the battle she had fought and won. Around her neck, resting directly against her collarbone, hung the restored Saint Jude medal on a new platinum chain.
“Are you happy, Adeline?” Enzo asked softly, spinning her gracefully to the slow, romantic cadence of the waltz.
Adeline looked across the room. She saw Josie laughing by the chocolate fountain, completely healthy, talking animatedly with Dr. Henderson and Ambrose. She saw a future that was no longer defined by fear, debt, or hiding in the shadows.
She looked back up into the dark, fierce eyes of the man who had torn down an empire just to give her back her name.
“I didn't think people like me were allowed to be this happy,” she confessed, her voice thick with emotion.
Enzo pulled her closer, his hand resting warmly against her waist, his lips brushing softly against hers in a promise that would never be broken.

“You are not ‘people like you,’ Adeline,” Enzo whispered with a fierce, quiet devotion. “You are the keeper of my heart. You were my savior in the dark, and from this day forward... you are my queen.”
As the music soared toward the vaulted ceiling, Adeline smiled, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed the king of Chicago, knowing that the long night was finally over, and their dawn had just begun.
