Chapter 10 - Dawn of Retribution

The storm winds howled through the open arches of the bell tower, tearing at Donatello’s expensive coat as he dangled precariously over the jagged rocks two hundred feet below.

“Vincent... please!” Donatello choked out, his face turning purple as Vincent’s iron fingers tightened around his windpipe. “I raised you! After your father died, I protected you!”

“You murdered my mother,” Vincent growled, his voice a terrifying rumble of pure retribution. “You tore my brother from our cradle. You sent hitmen into my home to slaughter an innocent woman and a child. You are not family, Donatello. You are a cancer on the Corrado name.”

Below in the cathedral courtyard, the heavy oak doors burst open as Adrian, flanked by fifty armed loyalists and the elders of the Five Families, stepped out into the rain. They looked up at the bell tower, witnessing the final judgment of the syndicate.

Donatello looked down, seeing his allies standing shoulder to shoulder with Adrian. He saw the elder bosses turning their backs on him, condemning him to the darkness he had created.

“Vincent...” Donatello wheezed, his eyes wide with the realization of total defeat. “What will you become without me?”

“A real father,” Vincent replied coldly.

Vincent released his grip.

A single, terrified scream was instantly swallowed by the roar of the Atlantic gale as Donatello plummeted into the churning black waves below, disappearing forever into the depths of the ocean.

Vincent turned around. The rage that had consumed him vanished in an instant, replaced by a desperate, overwhelming tenderness. He dropped to his knees before Camila, pulling his knife and slicing through her zip-ties with gentle precision.

Camila threw her arms around his neck, pulling him down into a fierce, breathless kiss. Her tears mingled with the rain on his cheeks as she held his face between her hands. “You came. You really came.”

“Always,” Vincent whispered, his voice trembling with raw emotion.

He turned to Mia, carefully slicing the straps that bound her chair. The moment she was free, Mia threw her little arms around Vincent’s neck, burying her face into his chest.

“I cut the bad wires, Papa,” Mia whispered proudly, holding up the silver compass. “The compass kept us safe.”

Vincent wrapped both arms around the little girl, pressing his face into her hair, a single tear of profound gratitude escaping his eyes. “You saved all of us, little bird. You brought my family back from the dead.”

Adrian stepped through the interior tower staircase, pausing at the threshold. He looked at Vincent, Camila, and Mia wrapped in each other’s arms, bathed in the pale golden light of the rising sun breaking through the storm clouds.

Vincent looked up, meeting his twin brother’s gaze.

“The council has recognized the evidence, Vincent,” Adrian said with a warm, genuine smile. “Donatello’s network is dismantled. The Five Families have sworn fealty to the true Corrado bloodline. The war is over.”

Vincent stood up, holding Mia on his hip while keeping his arm securely wrapped around Camila’s waist. He extended his hand to Adrian.

“No more ghosts, Adrian,” Vincent said firmly. “From this day on, the Corrado name belongs to both of us. But the syndicate ends here. We are taking the shipping empire legitimate. No more blood. No more secrets.”

Adrian grasped his brother’s hand, pulling him into a powerful, long-overdue embrace. “No more secrets, brother.”
