Chapter 10 - The Shattered Hourglass

The dawn was breaking over the city skyline, casting golden rays of light across the glass façade of Saint Jude’s hospital. The storm had passed, leaving the morning air crisp, clean, and renewed.

Inside the penthouse medical suite, the atmosphere was silent, holy, and still.

Anne Miller was sitting up in bed, supported by soft pillows. Her color had returned, her hazel eyes bright with life, though filled with unspeakable longing.

Sitting on the edge of the bed was Sarah, holding her mother’s hand, her face lit with pure joy.

The heavy double doors of the suite opened.

Matthew walked into the room.

His clothes were torn, his knuckles bruised, his hair still damp from the ocean water. But in his arms, wrapped in a warm dry blanket, was Leo.

Anne let out a choked, ragged sob that seemed to carry the weight of six years of suffering, tears streaming freely down her face. "My baby..."

Leo looked up at Anne, his eyes widening. "Mommy?"

Matthew set Leo gently onto the bed.

In an instant, Anne wrapped both arms around Leo and Sarah, pulling both her children against her heart. The three of them wept together, their tears washing away six years of darkness, coldness, and captivity.

Matthew stood at the foot of the bed, watching the family he had lost—the family he had fought through hell and high water to reclaim. An overwhelming wave of gratitude and emotion swept over him, bringing tears to the hardened billionaire’s eyes.

Leo turned and pointed at Matthew. "Mommy, he’s my daddy. He swam through the big water and saved me."

Anne looked up at Matthew, her lips trembling with an emotion too deep for words. She reached out her hand across the white sheets.

Matthew walked forward and took her hand, his fingers intertwining with hers, bridging the six-year chasm in an instant.

"You never stopped waiting," Matthew whispered.

"And you never stopped looking," Anne replied, her voice filled with enduring love.

At that moment, the door opened quietly, and Marcus Vance stepped in, holding a leather folder containing federal arrest warrants and corporate seizure documents.

"Sir," Marcus said quietly. "Federal agents and SWAT just raided Arthur Pendelton’s estate in the Hamptons. He was caught attempting to board a private jet to Zurich with the embezzled assets. He is in federal custody facing life imprisonment for treason, kidnapping, and attempted murder. The Sullivan board has unanimously re-affirmed your absolute control of all corporate assets."

Matthew nodded once, his voice calm and resolute. "Ensure he spends the rest of his miserable life in a maximum-security federal penitentiary. The Sullivan foundation will establish a fifty-million-dollar fund for victims of human trafficking in Anne’s name."

"Consider it done, Mr. Sullivan," Marcus said, smiling respectfully before closing the door to leave them in peace.
