Chapter 7 - THE ABDUCTION AT DUSK

The Lusaka National Press Club was packed to capacity. Over fifty national and international journalists jostled for position with cameras flashing as Zola, Cairo, and Beatrice Mwape took their seats at the podium.
Zola placed a black flash drive onto the table.
"For forty-eight hours, Mansa Holdings and Vance Global Mining have waged a vicious disinformation campaign against me and the Tando Women's Center," Zola spoke into the microphones, her voice commanding the entire room. "They called me an extortionist. But the truth is, this merger is a criminal cover-up."
Cairo leaned into his microphone. "On this drive are the unredacted environmental audits proving Vance Mining dumped over forty tons of toxic heavy metals into the Kafue River basin, causing catastrophic illnesses in rural communities. My father, Edward Mansa, intended to use Mansa capital to bail out this criminal negligence in exchange for mining concessions."
The room erupted into chaos. Camera shutters clattered like machine guns.
Within minutes, the live broadcast went viral globally. The Johannesburg Stock Exchange temporarily halted trading on Vance Mining as international regulatory bodies announced an immediate criminal investigation into Vivienne Vance.
Sitting in her high-rise office, Vivienne watched the broadcast on a giant screen. Her face was twisted in psychotic fury as federal marshals appeared in the lobby of her corporate headquarters.
"She ruined me," Vivienne hissed, smashing her crystal glass against the marble floor. She grabbed her phone, dialing an unlisted paramilitary contractor. "Execute Protocol Omega. Bring me the child. Now!"
Across town, at the secure embassy penthouse, the rain poured in violent sheets.
Miriam, the nurse who had delivered Tando and now managed his daily care, was heating milk in the kitchen while Tando played with wooden blocks on the rug.
Suddenly, the power cut out completely. The penthouse was plunged into pitch-black darkness.
The backup generators failed to kick in. The distinct sound of suppressed gunshots echoed from the outer corridor as Cairo’s private guards were neutralized.
"Tando!" Miriam screamed, rushing through the dark to scoop the toddler into her arms.
The heavy reinforced front door was blasted off its hinges with a tactical charge. Smoke filled the living room. Three masked operatives in night-vision goggles swarmed the apartment.
Miriam tried to run toward the panic room, but a gloved hand grabbed her by the hair, throwing her violently against the kitchen counter. Tando was ripped from her arms, his terrified cries piercing the smoky haze.

"Target acquired," the lead operative spoke into his radio. "Tell Vance we have the boy."
