Chapter 10 - The Reckoning of Edward Mansa

The following morning, the sun broke through the clouds over Lusaka, illuminating the massive granite steps of the Mansa Holdings headquarters.

Inside the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor, Edward Mansa sat alone at the end of the forty-foot glass table. His cane rested against his chair, his hands trembling slightly as he stared at the financial terminal in front of him.

The Vance Global Mining scandal had caused an unprecedented contagion. Banks were freezing Mansa credit lines, international partners were canceling contracts, and the board of directors had called an emergency vote of no confidence.

The heavy double doors opened.

Edward looked up, expecting his legal team.

Instead, walking into the room side by side were Cairo and Zola. Behind them walked Beatrice Mwape, accompanied by the Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission and four federal officers.

"Cairo," Edward said, his voice raspy, trying desperately to maintain his aura of untouchable authority. "You dare bring these people into my boardroom?"

"It’s not your boardroom anymore, Father," Cairo said, stepping to the table and tossing a thick legal binder across the glass.

Edward opened it. His face drained of all color.

"These are the forensic accounting records of your offshore shell companies in the Cayman Islands," Beatrice Mwape stated with clinical precision. "Documenting thirty years of bribery, tax evasion, and money laundering. Along with the sworn confession signed an hour ago by Vivienne Vance, naming you as an accessory to the attempted kidnapping of Tando Mansa."

Edward’s hands shook violently. He gripped his cane, trying to stand, but his legs failed him. He slumped back into his leather chair, looking at his son with wide, desperate eyes.

"Cairo... I built this empire for you," Edward pleaded, his voice cracking. "Everything I did... sending you to London, arranging the merger... it was to protect the Mansa legacy!"

"You didn't build an empire, Father," Cairo said, looking down at the broken patriarch with neither hatred nor pity, only absolute finality. "You built a prison of greed. And today, the doors are closing on you."

Edward turned his gaze toward Zola. For the first time, there was no arrogance left in his eyes—only the terrified realization that the woman he had dismissed as worthless had completely dismantled his dynasty.

"Zola..." Edward whispered. "Please... you understand family..."

Zola stepped forward, resting both hands on the boardroom table. Her gaze was steady, piercing, and majestic.

"I understand family very well, Mr. Mansa," Zola said softly. "Family protects. Family endures. Family lifts each other up when the rain falls. You never had a family. You only had hostages. And your reign is over."

The federal officers stepped forward, clicking heavy steel handcuffs around Edward Mansa’s wrists and escorting the disgraced billionaire out of the building he had ruled for decades.
