Chapter 1 - THE GIRL THEY THOUGHT HAD NO POWER
Amelia Reed had spent months enduring humiliation at Westbridge University.
After defeating wealthy student Veronica Hale in a national business competition, Amelia became Veronica’s favorite target. Her notebooks disappeared. Cruel rumors spread across campus. Veronica’s boyfriend, Chase Mercer, even planted a stolen watch inside Amelia’s backpack in an attempt to have her arrested.
Each time, the university called it a misunderstanding.
The reason was simple.
Veronica’s father, Richard Hale, was Westbridge University’s largest donor.
Nobody wanted to challenge his daughter.
Then Veronica went too far.
In the middle of the university courtyard, surrounded by students filming with their phones, Veronica’s friends dumped garbage over Amelia and drenched her with freezing red liquid while laughing at her.
“People like you don’t belong beside people like us,” Veronica whispered while livestreaming Amelia’s humiliation.
But Amelia did not cry.
She did not run.
She simply looked into Veronica’s camera and said two words.
“Keep recording.”
What Veronica did not know was that Amelia had been gathering evidence for weeks.
A hidden camera inside Amelia’s backpack had recorded Chase stealing garbage from a university maintenance room. It captured a professor warning Veronica that the red chemical dye might injure Amelia’s eyes.
Most importantly, it captured Veronica laughing and saying:
“My father owns this place.”
Then, at exactly eleven o’clock, thunder filled the sky.
A black helicopter descended onto Westbridge University’s athletic field.
On its side was the silver crest of Sterling Global, one of the largest private investment empires in America.
Students began whispering.
Veronica smiled confidently.
“That’s probably here for Daddy.”
Amelia wiped the red water from her eyes and looked toward the helicopter.
