Chapter 1 - THE BOY WHO CHOSE HIS OWN MOTHER

Claire Bennett had spent two years as personal secretary to Adrian Kane, one of Manhattan’s most feared mafia bosses, without ever allowing their relationship to become anything but professional.
Adrian was controlled, intimidating, and almost impossible to read. Claire organized his meetings, handled emergencies, and kept his business life moving with ruthless efficiency, yet she had never seen him lose control.
Until the morning he was forced to bring his six-year-old son, Noah, to the office.
Noah was everything Adrian was not—curious, talkative, affectionate, and incapable of respecting the invisible walls his father built around himself.
When Noah wandered away during a meeting and found Claire in the hallway, he loudly announced that she was beautiful, that his father constantly looked at her, and that she should become his mommy.
The entire hallway froze.
To Claire’s horror, Adrian actually laughed.
But when Adrian crouched in front of Noah and quietly asked why he truly believed Claire should become his mother, Noah’s playful expression vanished.
