Chapter 1 - THE WOMAN WHO DIDN’T FLINCH
Serena Valente arrived at the Rinaldi estate with thirty-six dollars in her checking account, an overdue electric bill, and only two weeks before a custody hearing that could determine whether she kept her seven-year-old daughter, Lucia.
She nearly reconsidered after watching the previous nanny flee the mansion in tears.
Inside waited Victor Rinaldi, a feared New York mafia boss and widowed billionaire who had somehow met his match in his own six-year-old quadruplet sons: Marco, Nico, Alessandro, and Tommy.
Every nanny before Serena had quit.
Some lasted days.
Most lasted hours.
Victor offered Serena a brutally simple test: get all four boys seated at the dinner table and eating a real meal before eight o’clock, and the job—complete with salary, benefits, and optional room and board—was hers.
The boys immediately began their usual war.
An apple flew past Serena’s face.
Threats were made.
Challenges issued.
Yet Serena didn’t yell.
She didn’t beg.
She simply started cooking.
When Alessandro finally asked the question every boy was thinking—
“You’re supposed to be angry.”
