Chapter 1 - THE KISS MY SON WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO SEE

Eight-year-old Noah Caruso was watching a baseball game from the living-room floor when the television camera suddenly found his father in a private stadium section.
Dominic Caruso had told his wife he was attending an important downtown meeting.
Instead, he was sitting beside Sloan Mercer, the elegant crisis consultant who had worked closely with Caruso Atlantic during a difficult labor dispute two years earlier.
And in front of thousands of television viewers, Sloan touched Dominic's chest and kissed him.
Noah had been recording clips from the game because he liked saving highlights to show his father later. He captured the entire moment.
While Noah stared at his mother in confusion and asked why his father had lied, she forced herself not to fall apart. She saved the recording before grief could interfere with instinct.
Then she replayed it.
That was when she noticed something more disturbing than the kiss.
Around Sloan's wrist was a red-and-silver security band.
She recognized it.
It wasn't stadium identification.
It belonged to one of Caruso Atlantic's restricted waterfront terminals.
And behind Dominic and Sloan stood Rafael Moretti, one of Dominic's most trusted senior executives—the same man who was supposedly attending a separate emergency meeting across town.
Three people.
Three lies.
And one security wristband that Sloan Mercer should never have possessed.

By the time Dominic came home that night, his wife had stopped wondering whether her marriage was in trouble.
She had begun wondering what her husband and his mistress were hiding.
