Chapter 1 - THE MORNING I LOST EVERYTHING

Sebastian Cole had spent nearly three years giving everything he had to Northline Creative, a struggling Chicago-area marketing agency run by Nick Halpern. He stayed late, skipped family dinners, rescued failing campaigns, trained junior employees, and built the most important pitch the agency had ever prepared.
Then, on the morning of the presentation that could have changed Northline’s future, Sebastian saw an elderly woman collapse beside the road.
She was clutching her chest.
Cars kept passing.
Sebastian did not.
He pulled over, called 911, stayed with her, kept her conscious, and helped the paramedics until the ambulance took her away.
By the time he reached Northline, the prospective clients were gone.
Nick did not care why Sebastian had been late.
When Sebastian explained that a stranger had collapsed in his arms, Nick asked whether the woman was his wife or mother.
When Sebastian said no, Nick told him he should have kept driving.
Then he fired him in front of the entire office.
Humiliated, terrified about supporting his wife and two young daughters, and unable to understand how three years of loyalty could disappear in a thirty-second conversation, Sebastian drove home believing his career had been destroyed because he had chosen a human life over a business meeting.

He had no idea that the woman he had saved was connected to the very meeting he had missed.
And when Sebastian returned to Northline to clear out his desk, she was already waiting for him.
