Chapter 1 - THE SCAR SHE COULDN’T HIDE

The sound of breaking glass brought billionaire logistics entrepreneur Grant Whitmore running into the kitchen of his Atlanta estate.
What he found stopped him cold.
His fiancée, Vanessa Sterling—the elegant daughter of powerful Senator Richard Sterling—had both hands around the throat of Grant’s quiet housekeeper, Renee Walker.
Renee was already turning purple.
Grant tore Vanessa away and demanded an explanation, but Vanessa immediately changed from violent attacker to trembling victim. She claimed Renee had tried to blackmail her and begged Grant to throw the housekeeper out.
Renee, barely able to breathe, pointed toward Vanessa’s exposed left wrist.
There was a strange fish-hook-shaped scar running across it.
Then Renee said the words that changed everything.
“She killed him, Mr. Whitmore.”
Vanessa’s composure vanished.
Renee claimed the scar connected Vanessa to something that had happened six years earlier. Vanessa screamed for her to shut up, grabbed a heavy brass candleholder, and lunged toward Renee’s head.

Grant stepped between them.
At that moment, he knew the life he had built—and the woman he was supposed to marry—might both be based on lies.
