Chapter 1 - THE SIX WORDS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING
Rebecca Lawson arrives unexpectedly at her daughter Emily’s home and discovers that Emily’s husband, Daniel, and his mother, Patricia, have been controlling and humiliating her. Emily is shivering in a freezing kitchen while Daniel orders her around, grabs her, and boasts that she has no money, nowhere to go, and no claim to “his” house.
Rebecca quietly records the confrontation. What Daniel does not know is that the Lawson Family Trust purchased the house after Rebecca’s husband died, and the deed was placed solely in Emily’s name. Daniel contributed nothing.
As Rebecca helps Emily prepare to leave, Emily reveals that Daniel confiscated her phone, changed her banking passwords, and hid her car keys. Then Patricia casually reassures Daniel with six chilling words:
“By Friday, the house will be ours.”
Rebecca realizes they are not merely dealing with a cruel marriage.
